"Young" farmer – farmer or rancher under the age of 35, at the time of the loan closing.

"Beginning" farmer – farmer or rancher or one who is in the process of establishing an agricultural operation and has not assumed the full control and risk of the operation for longer than 10 years.

"Small" farmer – farmer or rancher having gross sales from agriculture of less than $250,000 annually.

Puerto Rico Farm Credit’s Policy

The Association makes a concerted non-discriminatory effort to provide financing and related services to young, beginning or small farmers and provides for:

Maximum coordination:

• Assisting in developing credit for the applicant

• Between Farm Credit and cosigners or guarantors, including governmental agency guarantors

Maximum utilization of the flexibility of existing loan programs to the advantage of these applicants

A commitment of financial resources & a risk management philosophy to ensure the objectives of Farm Credit’s policy are met.

The offering of credit-related services to this group of farmers as needed.
